analyzing - Horror short 'Kookie' Dir. Justin Harding 

I will be analysing the short horror film called “Kookie” directed by Justin Harding and produced by Alter a YouTube channel that creates Short horror films like this one. Kookie was released on September 6th 2019. The narrative of the story goes as followed, Bree is a dishonest 9 year old who gets visited by a terrifying creature after a parenting lesson goes horrible wrong. 

 

The short film starts with a wide Birdseye view shot of a car driving down a road. This shot is accompanied by some creepy music which helps set the tone for this short film. We then cut to a young girl watching what seems to be watching an old horror film, this could represent the genre on a meta basis, the characters know what happens in a horror film but the proceed to do the same things. Moving on we are introduced to the girls babysitter who is a young boy, this could show that the mum isn't always there to look after the girl. This point may come back later in the short when the girl is wondering the house alone. Furthermore we ae introduced to the main prop with a close up shot of a teddy bear cookie jar, this is a nice shot since the teddy bear is more represented as something nice and cuddly so the girl isn't scared to get more cookies, the close up shot may also be a way to tell us that something is going to happen to this jar. 

The next part of this scene we get an over the shoulder shot of the babysitter doing their homework while the girl gets another cookie. Skipping ahead we are introduced to the mother who first talks to the babysitter and pays them.
